The Conservatives have broken the promises they made when they took control of Oxfordshire County Council in May 2005. The local Liberal Democrats are highlighting four pledges made by the Conservatives which they have not met.
1. They promised "Better exam results"
The reality: Poor exam results have led to the County Council losing a 'star' in its Government rating.
2. They promised "Readily available personal care for older people"
The reality: The Conservatives have tightened the criteria for access to care so that more and more older people fail to get the help they need. The Lib Dems proposed extra funding for care for the elderly and vulnerable.
3. They promised "More local facilities for teenagers"
The reality: The Conservatives have failed to invest in youth facilities. The Youth Service is overstretched. The Lib Dems proposed extra funding to support more youth workers and investment in better youth facilities.
4. They promised "Conservatives work for lower council taxes"
The reality: The Conservatives have raised the County's Council Tax rate three years running.
