Newly elected Mayor of London Boris Johnson is "expected to stand down as MP for Henley, triggering a by-election" according to the BBC, despite a May Day article in The Times headlined 'It will be 'two jobs' Boris Johnson if he becomes Mayor of London'.
On 1st May, The Times reported that Boris Johnson would remain an Oxfordshire MP for "up to a year" if elected Mayor of London. Mr Johnson's constituency said that it did not expect to replace him as MP for Henley immediately. They said:
"John Walsh, the Conservative agent in Henley, said that the local association would be looking for a candidate 'in an orderly fashion'. He added: 'This will not be done in a rush. We have a timetable to select a candidate before the summer holiday, with a potential for an autumn or spring by-election.'"
The Oxford Mail reported on Friday that:
"Confusion about Boris Johnson's future in Oxfordshire was growing last night as local Tories appeared to cast doubt on his pledge to step down as Henley MP "very soon" if elected London mayor."
