Catherine Bearder urges members of the public to sign the 365alive pledge

Oxfordshire Campaigner Catherine Bearder is calling on Oxfordshire residents to to join in the fight to save more lives in the home and on the roads. After a meeting with fire officers in Oxfordshire, Catherine has signed up to the relaunched "365 Alive" campaign that aims to save lives across the county, and is calling on others to do the same.

The central goal of the 365 Alive campaign is to save an extra 365 lives across the county in the next 10 years by increasing awareness of fire and road safety issues.

The campaign urges members of the public to do three simple things that could save their lives:

  • Check their smoke alarms weekly
  • Wear a seat belt in a moving vehicle
  • Have a fire escape plan

"By doing these three simple things lives can be saved, and it might just be yours" said Catherine.

"I urge you to sign the pledge and take the actions and get into the habit of thinking safety."

Oxfordshire County Council's Chief Fire Officer John Parry said:

"We want people to really think about fire and road safety on a regular basis and take responsibility for their safety and that of others.

"By actively taking this pledge we hope members of the public will change their behaviour and help to bring down the county's toll of unnecessary deaths and injuries."
