Stephen Kearney is backing lock keepers in their battle
Financial pressure has led to a plan to sell-off or rent out local lock keepers' cottages. These include those at Wallingford, Buscot, Little Wittenham, Sandford-on-Thames, and Culham.
The sell off, which will mean lock keepers and their families have to move house, is to raise funds for the Environment Agency. A local campaign to stop the sell off is already underway.
"I am very concerned that the Environment Agency is so short of funds that it is having to turf lock keepers and their families out of their homes," said local Liberal Democrat campaigner Stephen Kearney.
"This once again demonstrates the lack of priority the Government gives to maintaining our waterways."
