The Guardian has rubbished the chances of the Labour Party in Henley, raising the possibility that Labour will gain less than 5% of the vote. Labour came third in the last two General Elections in Henley, and the Liberal Democrats are the only serious opposition to the Conservatives for the seat.
The Guardian article on 31st May said:
"Labour, who came third at the general election stand no chance in the by-election but their candidate could risk losing his or her deposit, if the party's current position in the opinion polls is a guide."
Liberal Democrat campaign manager for Henley, Miranda Roberts, commented:
"With Labour in a poor third place last time and national opinion polls showing Labours vote in freefall, it's clear that only Stephen Kearney and the Liberal Democrats can challenge the Conservatives here in Henley."
