A UK-wide campaign to encourage people to recycle more of their household waste has been backed by Stephen Kearney and local Liberal Democrats.
National Recycling Week is being held on 2nd - 8th June. This is the fifth year it has been held. It is run by Waste Resources Action Programme (WRAP), a national organisation set up to help people produce less waste and advise on how best to deal with rubbish in an environmentally friendly way.
Liberal Democrat campaigner Stephen Kearney said:
"We are delighted to back National Recycling Week. We are certainly doing our bit at our Campaign HQ.
"Too much rubbish is still being thrown away in England today. We need real action to reduce excess packaging and better recycling facilities here in South Oxfordshire. If I become Henley's next MP, I will be a strong champion for environment."
Benson Councillor Susan Cooper added:
"When the Liberal Democrats ran South Oxfordshire, the District Council was one of the leading authorities in the country for recycling. It's sad that the council has slipped down the league table under the Conservatives. We are pressing for more improvements to recycling locally and I strongly encourage local residents to support National Recycling Week."
