Many local residents have told the local Liberal Democrats that they are concerned at the growing threat to the Green Belt. The Labour Government and some Conservative County Councillors have supported large housing developments, and there is now the proposal for a so-called 'eco-town' on Otmoor.
Lib Dem campaigner Stephen Kearney said:
"I am very concerned about areas of the Green Belt being 'picked off'. It completely threatens the rural nature of our area."
Lib Dem County Councillors have consistently voted against areas of the Green Belt being "picked off".
"Clearly there is a real need for affordable housing so that local families have more opportunities to stay living in the community they have grown up in," said Cllr Anne Purse.
"But new housing needs to be developed in such a way as to maintain the rural character of our area and in line with the Green Belt."
