Kearney: No to Polyclincs - keep GP services in villages

June 8, 2008 1:57 PM

Nettlebed doctor's surgery has undergone some major changes lately. Local doctor Dr Jim McWhirter retired, and under Labour's plans for the NHS, more changes could be round the corner for surgeries throughout the area.

The Government wants to build new 'polyclinics' with up to twenty GPs all working under one roof in large towns. Health Minister Lord Darzi suggested that 'polyclinics' could soon replace traditional local surgeries.

Doctors leaders and local Liberal Democrats are opposing the plan to impose 'polyclinics.' Local Lib Dem campaigner Stephen Kearney is campaigning against the loss of vital local GP practices across South Oxfordshire.

The loss of village surgeries would cause huge damage to the local community" said Local Lib Dem Campaigner Stephen Kearney.

"If the Government tries to impose 'polyclinics' on our area I will stand shoulder to shoulder with the community in opposing them" continued Stephen.
