Henley Constituency comprises miles of beautiful Oxfordshire countryside, stretching from the outskirts of Reading in the south to Oxford in the north.
The area is a wonderful place to visit, with the attractions of the river Thames, Waterperry Gardens, Nuneham Courtenay Arboretum and Dorchester Abbey to name but a few. The most noticeable feature in the landscape is the Chilterns, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty, where red kites have been successfully re-introduced to Britain. It's here that the M40 slices through the Chiltern ridge to give a sudden view of the plain beyond.
The constituency is named after Henley-on-Thames, but the largest town is actually the market town of Thame, with its historic and very wide high street. After these towns, the constituency contains only numerous independent-minded villages, almost all of which have elected Lib Dem Councillors in the recent past.
Labour have never been a contender here. This by-election will be perceived from the start as a Lib Dem vs Conservative battle which we intend to fight very hard indeed.
