The Conservatives running Oxfordshire County Council have put the Council Tax up for the third year running despite having promised to 'work for lower council taxes' to get elected.

A household in band D is now paying £123.29 more than when the Conservatives took control of the County in 2005 - an overall rise of 13%.

"Council Tax is a very unfair tax, hitting those on average and below average incomes hardest," said local Lib Dem campaigner Cllr. Susan Cooper.

"But the Conservatives have made it worse by breaking their promise to work for lower council taxes."
