Lib Dems back extra flood cash

1.50.00pm BST (GMT +0100) Sun 8th Jun 2008

Stephen Kearney and the Liberal Democrats have backed a big increase in resources for flood defences. Local campaigner Stephen Kearney said:

"We know after the recent floods in Burcot Lane that this is a big issue for residents here in Berinsfield."

The Liberal Democrats are concerned that the low level of current Government spending means far too many communities are left out of vital flood defence work. Lib Dem Leader Nick Clegg says that the current level of investment is far short of what is needed.

He has set out a 10 point plan to improve the Government's response to flooding which includes substantial extra investment.
