Posterwatch: Lib Dem posters targeted1.18.00pm BST (GMT +0100) Tue 17th Jun 2008
Police are to investigate a number of thefts of Liberal Democrat posters in the Henley constituency. Hundreds of Henley residents have been displaying Liberal Democrat posters and stake-boards in their gardens and windows backing Stephen Kearney's campaign. The Liberal Democrats are concerned that a number of their stake-boards have been taken or destroyed locally, especially on or near the Thame ring road, and have asked the police to investigate. Liberal Democrat agent Miranda Roberts said: "This is nothing more than theft and vandalism plain and simple. Hundreds of local residents are backing Stephen's campaign in Henley by displaying a stake-board in their garden or a poster in their window. "It is obvious to everyone that the Liberal Democrats are the main challengers to the Conservatives. Clearly somebody is so worried about the Liberal Democrats that they are destroying our posters." Local Liberal Democrat campaigner Stephen Kearney said: "Our advice to local people is that if they see anybody taking down a stake-board from a field or garden call the police immediately on 0845 8505505. If local residents would like a new or replacement poster or stake-board they should contact me on 01844 217030."
