Campaigning for Henley, Thame and South-East Oxfordshire

Kearney: I will put Thame back on the map!

7.30.42pm BST (GMT +0100) Fri 20th Jun 2008

Popular local campaigner Stephen Kearney has pledged to put Thame back on the map if elected as the new MP for the town.

Mr Kearney, who is locked in a two horse race with the Conservative candidate, has promised to change the name of the constituency to reflect the important status that Thame has achieved:

"Having spent a number of years enjoying the Thames waterway from my narrowboat I have come to know both Henley and Thame very well.

"Given their similar populations and the fact that neither town is at the geographic centre of the constituency it has always seemed curious to me that Thame is not mentioned in the constituency name.

"If elected as your new MP, I promise to put that right by changing the name to Henley & Thame at the first opportunity, if that is what local residents want."
